Hey there! Dawn here. I thought since we’re just getting going over here at AD Aesthetic, it would be an excellent time to introduce you guys to my home and where we’re at with everything currently.
If you’ve been a past reader of my older blog, DesigningDawn.com, you will probably recognize a lot of these images, but it’s a good reference point for where we’ll be starting from in projects moving forward.
I guess I should start from the beginning. In October of 2009 my husband (then fiance), Brett, and I bought our first home. It was a two story, four bedroom in a great neighborhood. It’s close to schools and parks and shopping. It’s on a culdesac and we have great neighbors. The only problem was that it was a short sale, and terribly run down. That old saying about buying the worst home in the best location totally applied to us, and actually worked in our favor, because the fact that nobody else wanted this unloved abode meant that it was actually in the price range of two twenty-somethings just starting out. I wanted a project, and Brett wanted a bargain, so we were both thrilled, even though our real estate agent though we were crazy.
Here are some photos of what the place looked like when we bought it, and what it looked like when I left off updating about our progress over on the old blog. We have done a few projects since then, but I’ll get to sharing those and post some fresh photos soon enough. 🙂
My favorite transformation! There are a few things with landscaping I’d still like to do out here, but overall I’m so thrilled with the changes we’ve made to the exterior of our home in the past seven years.
We’ve actually replace that boob light since this photo was taken, and we switched out the doorknob also, but otherwise, this space looks as shown.
Not pictured in this photo is the fantastic built in bench that I made for our dining room. I just love it and I’m super proud of myself for tackling it on my own.
Possibly my favorite room in the house, I built my own personal library in our front office space. I’m slowly filling it up with more books over time.
The deck is a big source of frustration for me. It’s a beautiful space and we use it all the time, however the lovely but grueling paint job we gave it a few summers ago did not hold up at all. The whole thing is currently a chippy mess. We’re currently exploring some options and trying to decide how to remedy it, but it will probably be at least next year before we make any progress here.
Basement Family Room
This room has kind of been a catch all for older furniture and random artwork thus far. I’m hoping that in the next few years we’ll make some real progress down here and actually use the space more. First on the list… getting rid of that blue carpet!
My oldest’s bedroom. She’s five years old.
My youngest’s bedroom. She just turned two!
This after photo is actually pretty outdated now, as I’ve made several big changes to this space since it was taken, but here’s where I left off on the previous blog, so I’ll catch you up soon on what’s changed in here. Stay tuned for that!
This is the one room we’ve barely touched since moving in. Since it’s hidden off our bedroom, no one but us ever sees or uses it, so it’s easy to focus attention elsewhere. Recently though, we decided to get a move on, and made a tiny bit of progress in here. More to come!
If you’re interested in how we got from point A to point B on any of these rooms, you can check out this page on my older blog, Designing Dawn. It has a nice roundup of posts on each space. But anyway, this is where I’ll pick up on projects and such going forward, and like I said, I already have a few updates made since these photos were taken that I can’t wait to share with you! Stay tuned!
In the meantime, also keep an eye out for Ashley’s home tour here on the blog very soon. It will give you a great idea of where we’re both at as we continue to make our spaces beautiful and functional. You might even spy a few pieces in her home that look familiar (we tend to think alike). Thanks for virtually visiting my home today!
