Dawn's House: Home Office Planning
Hey there friends! Well, one of my goals for the new year is to get a bit more organized. Specifically, in regards to the AD Aesthetic business and inventory. Since we started out with basically nada, and have grown our product offering a TON over the past year, managing all that product has turned into a bit of a hassle, and has turned my home library into a disaster zone of boxes, shipping supplies, and business papers. No bueno.
So in an effort to get my act together and keep my library calm and relaxing, I decided it was high time to turn our extra bedroom into a home office. My dream is to have an inspiring, light and airy space, like the beautiful example above from Rachel Denbow for A Beautiful Mess. The only problem was that the guest room was quite a bit larger than I would need for an office space, but my oldest daughters room was the smallest bedroom in the house. To remedy this, we decided to move her into the old guest room, and turn her bedroom into my office.
Here's what the guest room used to look like:
And here's what it looks like now that it's Vera's room:
Sorry for the crap phone photo, but I'll do a full post dedicated to her new room in the future, because I have some really fun plans for making it special for her. For now though, let's get to planning for my office, shall we?
For a baseline, here is what the space looked like as Vera's bedroom:
You may be wondering what we will do when guests come to stay, and believe me, I've thought that through as well. It was one of the reasons this didn't happen much sooner. We do have guests stay fairly often, especially my dad, so having a bed for them is essential. To solve the problem, I decided to keep a small twin bed in my office. I plan to have it set up kind of like a couch/day-bed when not in use, but if we need it, it can easily accommodate a guest. We kept the queen sized bed in Vera's room, so for those times when we need a larger bed for guests, they can take over her bed, and she'll still have a bed to sleep in in my office too. I think it will work out just fine. Plus the added bonus of not having a whole room that doesn't see full-time use. I like it.
On to the office plan. Here is what I'm thinking:
