Design-focused podcasts that will leave you feeling inspired
Hey friends! Ashley here. As a designer I find myself constantly searching for new sources of inspiration. With so many sites like Pinterest, Behance and Niice out there providing visual inspiration, it's easy to find your eyes over-stimulated. Lately, I've been turning on my podcast app to give my eyes a break. There are several great podcasts on design out there offering insight into and an appreciation for our discipline. To help you out, I've put together a list of my 5 favorites that truly provide me with inspiration to do bigger, better and more meaningful work. Check them out:
99% Invisible 99% Invisible is a truly thought-provoking podcast by Roman Mars that offers insights into the design and development of everyday items – things we don't normally think about. This podcast will make you stop and appreciate the details in the mundane and will remind you to "always read the plaque". It's beautifully produced, short, sweet and always fascinating, making it my all-time favorite podcast to listen to. The team behind 99% Invisible has also started a wonderful blog providing you with photos to go along with each story and several additional articles that are sure to inspire you to make the world a better place through design. | |
Design Matters This is likely the longest-running podcast on design out there, and for good reason. Debbie Millman interviews many of the design-greats (Milton Glaser, Steven Heller and Stefan Sagmeister, to name a few) providing insights into their processes, backgrounds and sources of inspiration. This is a MUST listen for anyone serious about design. The archives can be found on designobserver.com and date back to 2005, so there is plenty of material to keep you entertained and inspired. |

Let's Make Mistakes Let's Make Mistakes is a lighthearted podcast about design by Mike Monteiro, Liam Campbell, and Steph Monette of Mule. The hosts go off on entertaining tangents and riff off of each other making it feel like a happy-hour conversation with your best designer friends. |

After the Jump In After the Jump, Grace Bonney from Design Sponge interviews a guest from the creative community on design, business and personal growth. This one is sure to fill you with optimism and a desire to better your skills and yourself. |

Adventures in Design Adventures in Design is a daily (that's right, daily) design-focused podcast created by creatives for creatives. The show is hosted by designers Mark Brickey and Billy Baumann and covers many topics some inspiring, some educational. It's been around since 2013, so there is lots of audio goodness to keep you entertained for days. |
